For example, I wanted a new laptop for a long time, probably for more than a year. There was nothing inherently wrong with my old one, but it was big, clunky, and I just didn’t enjoy using it. I wanted a smaller one and I wanted to switch to Mac after using one at work for while. But for the longest time, I didn’t buy one, because I just couldn’t justify the price to myself.

Eventually, I starting thinking, well, I had my last laptop for six years roughly. If I spend 1K on a new one and end up using it at least three years, that’s only 1 EUR per day. I’d certainly be happy to spend 1 EUR per day for the privilege of having a nicer laptop 🙂

Changing the framing from "1K is too expensive" to more of a "per day of use" logic helped me take the plunge. I’m typing this from my new Macbook and I couldn’t be happier with that purchase!

I think I’ll start applying this concept going forward and see how that goes for other, especially smaller things. Thanks for the inspiration!

I totally agree that food and drink is hard to justify the dollar per use idea! But I love the idea of comparing it to margins haha, anything is possible in the personal finance world!
