Yes!! I think it’s awesome that you love to interact with others. Wish more people did.

Definitely! It’s the empathy factor. I am actually becoming more aware of how little I used to have. Now I feel like I’m becoming super concerned for others feelings just due to the fact that most people choose to ignore this aspect of socialization.

I totally know what you mean. It’s hard not to have those expectations when they are becoming so normalized in the world of sales and marketing. I definitely struggle to find things in stores that have too much product — like a Forever 21 or H&M — but otherwise navigating seems to be okay. Online is always my go to, though. So, similar to you!

Same here! I’m glad I’m not the only one 🙂

I’m not rude to the salespeople, but I have done things like walk out if the item isn’t stocked in the display, especially at, like, Sephora. For me, personally, though, it’s because I’m very specific about what I want (eg: X mascara only) and I’m not interested in finding a substitute (especially with makeup, because the sensitivity of my skin makes swapping products on the fly a no go).
I enjoy engaging with actual people, when the staff is available, but I also find that it can be difficult to find a real person to help, particularly in stores with big online counterparts, like Chapters and Sephora. People do a lot of online shopping, so the in store level of service seems like it’s been reduced to match.

Do you find that you sometimes have trouble finding something in a store? For me, because I am focused on buying only the specific things I’m looking for, I often find it hard to find exactly what I want. A shirt might be almost right, but the fabric doesn’t feel good, or the fabric is good but the cut is bad. I’ve had a lot of positive experiences finding products of better quality in online stores (like Etsy or from out of province retailers like Sitka), but fewer in store ones.

How empathy has experienced a downfall as we get more and more disconnected from others. We can click and swipe and have lots of options at our fingertips. We’re able to interact with other people a lot less and it’s affecting us.

I agree. We have everything at our fingertips, and honestly, a lot of us are very ungrateful. I love going to my local coffee shop or grocery store and interacting with others. It’s actually fun to me. I make a point to get to know the people who want to serve and take care of their customers. That takes a lot, especially in today’s society.
