In 2005, my husband and I sold everything we owned in Canada (business, home, cottage, car, motorcycle, stuff) and loaded what was left, including the cat and drove south. We stopped in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico where we stayed for three years. In 2008, we came back to Canada but have still been wintering in Mexico (for 4 months each year).

We are currently doing it (almost) all over again. We hope to list our house in Canada “soon” and will load all our belongings into a 40′ shipping container (which we have already purchased and is on our property). We will rent a family house in Canada for 6 months a year (where the container will be) and spend the other 6 months in Mexico.

I love getting rid of stuff, my husband not so much and our kids are in the middle. I think it’s important to remember what’s important to you in life and for us, it’s experiences and family more than stuff.
