I am also with a no fee bank and I set up auto transfers to my savings accounts that are deducted on payday so I don’t even notice it coming out. That way I’m making a conscious decision to save a certain amount biweekly, rather than just waiting to see what I have left over to move to savings. I also find that you can get a lot further ahead once you have a bit of savings if you invest that money...even if it is just putting $100 into a one year GIC, it stops you from dipping into it and you will have more interest earned than you would just putting it into a regular savings account. Perfect for a bigger savings goal like a vacation, down payment, or wedding a few years in the future.

Yes!!! I totally have 4 short-term savings accounts too! It makes it way easier to make progress (and most importantly -- see progress)! I love the idea of keeping your emergency fund in a separate bank. Might have to test that out!

For me I always started young. My mum taught me the habit of saving and it followed me all the way until right now (Thankfully) So I never really thought of having purpose behind savings because it became a habit for me. But I really liked how you brought out the point of "understanding" why you save and having a purpose to save. I think these are 2 really important points for people who are learning to get into the habit of saving. They have to write them out and be very clear about it, or else they would it really hard to save.

Just thought to mentioned these 2 points. Really simple but important points. I learned something useful today!

I love me some savings tips! And I love that you're encouraging people to be smart about the bank they choose. My bank doesn't charge fees at all (unless you mess up, of course) and they even offer cashback checking accounts.
