It really is crazy that we just get sent home with a new hunan. I am a pediatric ER nurse and when we got home all I could think was I have no idea what I am doing. Every baby is so different, our daughter is 15 months old and just last month started sleeping through the night (which has us all feeling rejuvenated). It is beautiful and difficult and rewarding and stressful all at the same time. I still miss time to myself and time with just my husband but the time we spend together as a family is priceless.

It’s hilarious. I’m almost one year post partum and she is on point with everything including the Command Hook boobs and bodily changes haha!!
Another good show I recently watched after crying at 4:30 am on a girls trip because my baby kept waking up in the same room as my girlfriends was The Letdown. It’s a series and my husband and I watched it together- very good!

Your little bean is adorable and already sleeping so well!! Keep up the great work new mama!

My face when they told you to wake her every two hours to feed

And the six hour nap when you threw that out

Our babies are all very different and weird and life is much better when we listen to them first, not all the professionals who don’t live with them. Welcome to parenthood, I wish you and your new family so very much good sleep and good feeds. ♥️

Great job on your first few weeks with baby Spencer. Watching your video made me realize that I thought the same thing too about wanting to get an epidural. "Would people think I was weak?/Am I doing the right thing for the baby?" I even asked my husband what he thought and he said that he would get 2 if he could. What I say now, 1 year later, F that. And I'm all for natural births. But if there is pain and you need something to cope that isn't a sign of weakness or lack of physically strengthen. Every baby and labour is different. There is no shame whatsoever is whatever path is acceptable. I know that even though I still needed to have a C-section, which was the last thing I wanted, I wanted the baby out more. You are so strong and I'm so proud of you.

Thanks for sharing your story. It’s really cool to hear what your experience was like because it’s humbling to me. I’ve helped deliver over 200 babies now I’m pretty sure and it’s easy to forget how scary and exciting and unnerving delivery might be for the families. Some days I am less than grateful to come to work or I feel tired or snappy when patients come in with what may seem like small concerns or we get so busy we’re barely able to keep the unit together. Hearing your story from a patient’s perspective help me shift whenever I have tough days. For the most part I enjoy what I do and it’s a special thing to be present for when a new baby is born. I can definitely vouch that delivery is so hard and each is so unique there’s no set of guidelines anyone should compare or achieve to. You are so brave and strong! Spencer is so cute… and I L-O-V-E her name!

I’m so excited for you guys.I’m not a mom and don’t plan to become one, but I am a new aunt and have done a lot of childcare work in the past. My nephew just turned one and he is just the cutest! I love all the little things that babies, toddlers and children do. The only advice I really have is something you already learned – every child is different. There’s no “one right answer”. Just keep listening to your gut and to your new daughter! 🙂

Agree that Ali Wong’s show was SO TRUE on so many levels. Please keep reaching out to all of us on twitter with questions (or just to talk!)
I’d never heard of having to wash the baby’s mouth. What was their reasoning behind that? Also the bathing never had to be too often (from what doctors told us).

The “need to feed every few hours” thing was definitely true for our first baby. She was really small (5lbs 8oz) and so pediatrician was afraid to let her go too long without eating. But then after awhile we were allowed to just follow her cues. But I did set plenty of alarms those first few days! Our second child wasn’t much bigger, (5lbs 15 oz) so I also started to set lots of alarms. But after a few weeks passed, they were SUPER impressed with his weight gain, so again said just to follow cues. DONT WAKE A SLEEPING BABY she said 🙂 So after that we just let him sleep.

Looking forward to reading your breastfeeding/pumping story. I have a few posts about my experience with all of that on my blog, but I’d also highly recommend checking out the kellymom website (https://kellymom.com/). Lots of reputable advice there.

YAY BABIES!
