Thank you for this post and comments. It helps me understand my sister a bit more. She had several miscarriages and then she did not let us know about her pregnancy with her son until she was 5 months pregnant and hid it from everyone else until he was born. I saw her the other day and she clearly looks pregnant again but is also clearly not wanting to tell anyone for the time being. I selfishly do wish she would say something so I could start to prepare my children for this but I guess they can be prepared after the baby is born. It was a bit shocking for them the last time. I also would love to share in the joy of this with her, but I know that will also come later. She and I are simply different and she is extremely private and I have to respect that.

I am currently 7 weeks pregnant and only my best friend, my sister and another friend know about it. My family are very conservative and will definetly disagree if we terminate pregnancy due to medical/genetic conditions. Also my mom is quite an anxious person and I dont feel like managing her anxiety on top of mine (I can set clear boundaries, but I will have to reaffirm those frequently knowing her).

The thing is after a week of wanting to tell my parents, I spent a day with them and realize how not telling them is saving me weeks of my mom's well-intended yet often overwhelming/clumsy remarks and advice. Ill see how I feel, but I might want to keep it a secret for a while even after genetic testing...

Oh my gosh! I am so happy I found this post!

I’m currently pregnant with my fourth child.
I deleted my social media & used the excuse of the COVID19 outbreak & overwhelmingly amount of posts about it as a excuse to deactivate my accounts.

I haven’t even told my family I’m pregnant yet. Despite this being my 4th baby, I’ve had 18 miscarriages. I’ve had to go the route of IVF and other medical interventions to get pregnant & stay pregnant for all my pregnancies but people including family / my siblings still feel the need to call me “ Fertile Myrtle“ even after 18 miscarriages that they know about.

I personally do not want to share this news until the baby is born due to my Highrisk and complex medical history.

This is the first pregnancy I have not experienced bleeding, HG (Hyperemesis gravidarum), and other complications & I truly feel it’s due to the lack of stress from not announcing my pregnancy.

COVID19 has made it easy to avoid seeing anyone & keeping this to myself to be honest.

Thank you for sharing this because it honestly validated my choice to keep this baby to myself until birth, I honestly couldn’t give a hoot if anyone is upset I didn’t tell them , if they can make my pregnancy & child birth selfishly about them knowing all I've been through, they do not deserve to be apart of it to be frank.

Before anyone judges or is snarky to the author, understand & at-least respect there is a lot of women / couples like me out there who have faced miscarriage/ child loss & want to keep these milestones to ourselves until we know baby is healthy, safe and here.

That’s... interesting I guess lol. If that genuinely makes u happy to keep ur joy and excitement a secret than so be it! I however would find that very depressing and I would count down the days feeling so upset and dragged out just to fulfill some “trend” of keeping a pregnancy a secret.. it’s like we’re not celebrities, no one cares if u kept a pregnancy a secret or not. Idk it’s not for me! I’m excited and want to share my excitement!
