Ahh, you’re such a great friend! Wish you were my neighbour instead of my Internet friend haha.

Aw, thanks Lauren! You’re too sweet. I agree that not enough people share their honest truth about what motherhood is like for them. Happy to be back!

(I especially grit my teeth at the term "daddy day care.") No one would bat an eye if you were to scale back your schedule the way your husband is doing, but of course if he does it, people probably act like it’s an amazing concession when he does it and hoo boy is he ill-prepared for the reality of a baby! Because of course dads are bumbling idiots who are clueless about their own babies.

Okay, okay, stepping down off the soapbox.

I’m not a parent, but I completely get not being full content with a day full only of baby activities. No matter how much love swells in your heart, the fact is simply that it can be a circumscribed world. That’s one reason I admire stay-at-home moms so much — because they don’t go crazy and of course they also get judged for not working, even if it’s less common than working moms getting judged for having jobs.

That said, I also admire women like you who battle mom guilt to do what’s right (or necessary) for them and go back to work. I think there is no right answer except what’s right for you personally. And clearly for you that’s going back to work. So kudos for not letting societal pressure (internalized or otherwise) force you into a role you’re not happy with. That takes a lot of strength of will.

Loved hearing/seeing all those updates of your sweet babe- and the oh so challenging aspects of motherhood/mat leave that NO BODY TALKS ABOUT! I can relate to a lot of what you felt- especially during those first few months with the crying, being far from family… and just mourning your own life. Totally appreciate your honesty about it – as so many ppl shy away from it or skip over it… something we need to talk about more to help normalize it :). Also good on you for going back to work when was right for you- so tricky to have to feel like you need to explain yourself or justify your situation…whatever works for you ain’t no body else’s business! Can’t wait for more weekly content:)

Mom Guilt is a force to be reckoned with. So glad you’re making decisions for yourself and your family instead of what Other People might think <3

I struggle when I hear comments suggesting I’m doing the “wrong” thing by working while my kids are at daycare. But I know this is the right thing for our family! And I see all the great benefits they get by being in that environment! And like you said, we still have those morning snuggles and other times to spend together that are so important!
Keep on rocking this role!

Your voice was missed and I’m glad you’re feeling ready to come back. The feeling of never doing enough for our kids is STRONG and frustratingly so when we know we’re doing the best we can with what we have. I’m glad you’re able to name the feeling and cope with it in healthy ways.
