Totally think that's a justified expense when it comes to your physical health and also the fact that you'll be wearing your shoes every single day. I always splurge in that department as well. But clothes I tend to buy cheap because I know I'll only wear them a couple years before wanting something new.

That's absolutely it. I choose to pay for quality in every sense of the matter, but sometimes I find products are labeled and then priced higher even though the quality is the same. Cheap shoes are always a no haha.

This is very timely in my life this week. I declined an expensive 2 day trip to Vegas because it was not in my financial plans and would not provide the happiness that I know I could use that money for otherwise. My family did not appreciate this, but I stood up for myself, because it's my money and not theirs.

I like nice things. Who doesn’t? But I don’t buy into all of the advertising hype. Advertisers exist to part you from as much of the money in your wallet as is possible. I spend on things that matter the most, a mattress for example. You spend a third of your life in bed, right? So, a mattress isn’t an area you should cheap out on. On the other hand, a good vehicle needn’t cost a king’s ransom to get a nice, reliable piece of machinery. Just because a thing is expensive doesn’t mean it’s necessarily better than a less expensive option. The hubs and I passed a guy yesterday who was pushing his very expensive, very new car off onto the shoulder of the road. Electrical system went out. Asked him if he needed a ride….in our 17 year old Ford Ranger.

I was just going to chime in with a shoe comment but Penny beat me to it! I do think that sometimes paying for quality (and I mean quality, not just a brand name). I walk to work and if I do that in $10 flats from Payless they are going to disintegrate in a week and destroy my feet in the process. My $200 beautiful, leather (and local) shoes are crazy comfy and have already outlasted any cheap flats I've owned. This ties back to your One Dollar/One Use post that I always think of before I buy something (yes, you haunt my shopping). Sometimes even cheap items are expensive if you don't get any use out of them.

Hmmm…I think sometimes that “you get what you pay for” adage is really true. And sometimes you’re simply paying for a logo or a brand. I think finding a high-low balance that speaks to your priorities is really important, and it’s highly personal. I’d never spend more than $15 or $20 on workout clothes (thanks, Target!), but I’m also not training every day in a way that necessitates special gear. I don’t buy cheap shoes (anymore) because I stand for 8 hours+ at work. Really good question that we should always ask ourselves!
